New Yorkers are very nice. I took my daughter up for her fifth birthday, and we just had one thing after another go wrong. My husband accidentally took my directions to my friend's house, she lived in Stuyvesant town and it was hard to find her house, then I didn't have the apartment number and, since she was subletting, her name wasn't on the directory. Three different nice people/families help us get to where we were going.
There's not, perchance, also a "rudest" list somewhere? Because I think the miracle of New Yorkers is that we win both. A feat that, say, Paris, or, say, Chicago, will never achieve.
The first week I lived in New York, I had a woman chase me for half a block to give me back a button she'd seen fall off my coat. So I am unsurprised by the city's niceness rating. :)
